CarePartners’ Dementia Day Center Transition
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Q: What is happening with the Day Center?
A: We’re very excited that the Dementia Day Center currently run by BakerRipley will become a CarePartners program as of January 1. The closure that BakerRipley announced a few months ago has been cancelled, and there will be no interruption in care for clients while the program transitions to a different nonprofit. The Dementia Day Center in Houston is the only place that provides licensed adult day care for people with moderate-to-late stage dementia; it provides a crucial service to the community, and it’s a priority to us to make sure it continues to thrive.
-
Q: Will the Day Center’s staff and programs remain the same under CarePartners management?
A: Yes, we have great confidence in the Day Center’s current staff and programs and we do not anticipate making any significant changes. Over time, we will continue to evaluate our operations and seek to continually make improvements for our clients.
-
Q: Will the fee structure and financial assistance programs remain the same?
A: We believe that it is important to support individuals with dementia and their families regardless of their financial condition and hope to be able to maintain the current fee structure.
-
Q: Do you plan to change current operations, such as number of people attending per day or hours of operation?
A: We do not anticipate changing the Day Center’s current capacity, hours, or staff in the near future.
-
Q: What changes will clients notice?
A: It should be an invisible change to the clients. Everything about their experience is remaining the same, in order to provide stability and prevent disruption of care.
-
Q: Will BakerRipley maintain any involvement in the operations?
A: As of January 1, BakerRipley won’t have any role in the operations. However, the Day Center will still operate in the BakerRipley building it currently occupies.
-
Q: How will taking over the Day Center affect CarePartners’ current programs?
A: The addition of the Dementia Day Center to CarePartners’ services not only fits within our agency’s mission and vision, but it also aligns with our program goals creating a continuum of community care that is currently unavailable in the Greater Houston area and augmenting current programs to improve the health and quality of life of our clients.
-
Q: How much money needs to be raised and how long will that amount fund operations?
A: We developed both long-term and short-term financial plans for the transition of the Day Center. We have about 1/3 of the $1.2 million needed for transitions costs and operations for the next 3 years, and we are in active discussions with the donor community about the remaining need.
