What is social engagement?

Social engagement is the opportunity for individuals to connect with other people, sometimes in one-on-one interactions and sometimes in group settings. Houston has a variety of options for older adults to connect with others.

What social engagement options are available in Houston?

Senior Centers are group settings where older adults can meet other people, participate in a variety of programming such as exercise or games, and eat lunch together. Click here to find a list of Senior Centers throughout Houston. You can also search for a senior center in your area by contacting your local Parks and Recreation department as well as contacting your County Precinct.

Senior Activity Programs are available through a variety of organizations and offer single class or event opportunities to connect with others. The United Way of Greater Houston provides this list of a wide variety of Senior Services around the community.

How do I get connected to social engagement programs for my loved one with dementia?

The Alzheimer’s Association provides Early Stage Programming for individuals in the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s disease. The programming ranges from education workshops to creative activities.
